A foundation is providing training for St. Louis-area teachers to conduct home visits in an attempt to improve student achievement by engaging parents in their children's education. Teachers who participate in home-visit programs are paid by their districts to make two visits per student each school year -- one focusing on establishing relationships with students' families and the next to discuss academics. "I've been astounded at what this program has done for our school, in terms of tone, parent support, attendance and discipline," one educator said.
