A push to expand access to Advanced Placement classes has resulted in more than 10% of all Texas high-school students taking the classes. However, a newspaper analysis of this year's test results showed that 54% of students who took AP exams did not pass, compared with 43% nationwide. While the results raise concerns about emphasis being being placed on AP programs, some educators say students are gaining valuable skills by taking the AP courses and exams, even if they do not pass.
