Toyota aims to reduce the energy consumed per vehicle the company produces by 27% by 2011, relative to 2002 levels, according to the company's North America Environmental Report. The company's manufacturing facilities use about $147 million worth of energy per year and create 1.1 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions. One of the ways the company lowers its emissions level is by incorporating solar panels into its production facilities, such as its Ontario, Calif., part center.
