Tesco fired the first shot in an Internet sales war by offering discounts on home wares, furniture and sporting goods. ASDA quickly followed suit, and then Sainsbury's launched a promotion on nonfood items. John Lewis, Comet, Debenhams, Halfords and other companies are expected to join the battle. Millions of U.K. online shoppers are expected to spend roughly £120 million on Christmas Day.
