Despite widespread criticism following the revelation that the UN mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo lent support to Congolese troops who committed widespread abuses, the UN renewed the mission's mandate by five months -- instead of the usual year. Congo's Ambassador to the UN, Atoki Ileka, says that criticism of the Congolese army should not take the form of punishment for the mission itself.
