The Environmental Protection Agency plans to introduce a "chemicals of concern" list to address health and environmental issues regarding four chemical groups, including phthalates and PBDEs, marking the first time the agency has used authority granted by the Toxic Substances Control Act to identify and regulate such chemicals. "Unfortunately, until today, there has been little transparency, and significant uncertainty, over the scientific basis for the selection of these chemicals," said Cal Dooley, the American Chemistry Council's president and CEO.
