The longer mothers breast-feed exclusively and wait to introduce infants to solid foods, the lower the chances the child will become overweight later in life, researchers said. The study found 1-year-old babies who were breast-fed longer had lower body mass index readings and the risk of being overweight by age 42 was reduced by 5% to 10% for each month delay in introducing complementary food.
