Food makers are gradually reducing the sodium levels on some of their most popular items but are not labeling the revamped products as low sodium. Over the course of five years, ConAgra Foods, for example, is cutting sodium by about 35% on its Chef Boyardee canned pasta, one of many companies hoping consumers won't notice the slow change over time. New York City officials today plan to announce a new initiative to help food makers and restaurants cut the amount of salt they are using.
