Officials in a Massachusetts district are launching a detailed review of their special-education system for the first time in more than a decade. During the 2008-09 school year, the district served nearly 2,300 students, or 20% of the student population. The study will look at how programs are meeting the academic and social needs of students and will compare offerings with those of neighboring districts. "Our focus is about studying achievement and providing a good social setting for a variety of children," a member of the district's school committee said.
