Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano met with European officials in Spain this week, defending the use of full-body scanners that some countries see as a threat to civil liberties. "Some of the privacy issues that have been raised are dealt with effectively by the new iterations of the technology," Napolitano said after meeting with interior ministers from across the Continent. She said the U.S. was not requiring foreign governments to adopt the technology and stressed that the meetings focused on many facets of aviation security, including better sharing of passenger information.
