The town of Cornelius, near Charlotte, N.C., is looking at a new design for Interstate 77 Exit 28 that would accommodate more traffic, decrease congestion and boost safety. The new design, called the "Diverging Diamond" and currently used only in Springfield, Mo., could save taxpayers millions of dollars because a new bridge deck wouldn't have to be rebuilt, cutting the cost of the project from as much as $35 million down to only $5 million. The town has received $6 million in federal money for the project.
