President Barack Obama acknowledged that the health reform bill pending in Congress might need to be pared down to make it more agreeable to all parties. The change in health reform strategy comes after Democrats lost their 60-vote majority in the Senate as Republican Scott Brown was elected to succeed the late Sen. Edward Kennedy in Massachusetts. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said she believes Obama should draft a new bill in an effort to garner strong bipartisan support.
