More than 100 teachers in Florida's Hillsborough County district attended a forum to hear about plans to overhaul teacher and principal evaluations, institute performance-based pay and launch other reforms using a $100 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The plan would have teachers and principals evaluated by their peers, and the teacher-pay scale would allow less experienced teachers to earn more based on performance. Veteran teachers would be able to opt in to the pay plan.
