FMI has recognized winners of the 2014 Distinguished Industry Leader Awards. Schnuck Markets' Joanie Taylor won the Esther Peterson Consumer Service Award; Hy-Vee's Rose Kleyweg was given the Glen P. Woodard Jr. Public Affairs Award; Campbell Soup's Denise Morrison was presented with the William H. Albers Industry Relations Award; and Meijer's J.K. Symancyk took home the GMA Industry Collaboration Leadership Award. FMI also presented the Herbert Hoover Award to Associated Grocers' J.H. "Jay" Campbell Jr., the Robert B. Wegman Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence to Bristol Farms' Kevin Davis and the Sidney R. Rabb Award to Price Chopper Supermarkets' Neil Golub.
Kroger said the Rapid Recall Exchange developed by the Food Marketing Institute, the Grocery Manufacturers Association and GS1 US saves valuable time in a recall situation, and it urged more suppliers and all retailers to join. The supplier-information portal, launched in September, has 84 retailers and wholesalers and 58 suppliers as subscribers, and it has been involved in seven recalls.
FMI has recognized Jeffrey Noddle, the retiring executive chairman of SUPERVALU, with its Sidney R. Rabb Award for community service and involvement on behalf of the supermarket industry. Gary Phillips, retired president and CEO of Associated Wholesale Grocers received the FMI Herbert Hoover Award for personal and professional excellence.
FMI honored Jeff Noddle, chairman and chief executive officer of SUPERVALU, with the 2009 Herbert Hoover Award. Neil Golub, president and CEO of Price Chopper Supermarkets, received the 2009 Glen P. Woodard Jr. Public Affairs Award. Rich Niemann Sr., chairman of Niemann Foods, was recognized with the 2009 Sidney R. Rabb Award. The 2009 William H. Albers Industry Relations Award went to Milton Sender, chairman and co-founder of Daymon Worldwide.
