Employers need to be cautious when doing employee background checks so they don't run afoul of Equal Opportunity Employment Commission rules, Jim Giuliano writes. Companies should avoid blanket policies against hiring anyone with a poor credit score or criminal record because it could inadvertently discriminate against some groups of workers. Also, employers should be able to give a good reason why a particular position requires a background check.
