Members of the Sikh community in Livingston, Calif., are providing weekly lessons in the Punjabi language to a younger generation of Sikhs, many of whom speak only English. The classes are part of a larger effort throughout the U.S. by the Sikh community to bridge the gap between immigrant Sikhs and U.S.-born generations by preserving their cultural, linguistic and religious traditions.
