US officials hope that £4.58 billion in aid to Pakistan's schools will improve the country's education system, which officials said fuels violent extremism based on Islam and neglects basic lessons. The money will go to building improvements, teacher training and curriculum updates. However, there is resistance from some who do not want to reform Pakistan's education system. "If the people get education, the elite would be threatened," one expert said.
