The Open High School of Utah, a virtual charter school, is among the first high schools to use unrestricted, open-access materials and textbooks -- offering educators new ways to tailor courses to meet the educational needs of students who are gifted or students who are struggling. Although the curriculum is aligned with state standards, teachers are free to revise or customize the materials because they are not copyrighted. "It helps us be more nimble and offer a more individualized approach," one teacher said.
