Fresh after winning an LTE contract from AT&T, Alcatel-Lucent said it had reached speeds up to 80 megabits per second over China Mobile's TD-LTE network, now in testing, and signed a deal with Telecom Italia to develop an LTE-based network. AT&T, which chose Alcatel and Ericsson to provide radio-access-network technology for its 4G network, plans to soon disclose suppliers for the LTE packet core, according to Chief Technology Officer John Donovan.
