As the demand for accurate measurements of greenhouse gases becomes more pressing, business is booming for Silicon Valley-based Picarro, which makes portable analyzers that measure in real time carbon dioxide, methane and other greenhouse gases. The company sold 12 of the $50,000 analyzers to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. China has bought 17 machines, and California will use the company's analyzers to measure methane through a statewide monitoring network.
