High-speed rail may come with a heftier price tag than previously thought, with Florida's proposed line a case in point, according to this piece. The Florida Transportation Department pegs the project cost at $3.5 billion. However, a Government Accountability Office report shows high-speed rail in Europe and Japan has averaged $51 million per mile -- which would bring Florida's Tampa-to-Orlando line to $4.28 billion.
