The European Parliament's committee on economic and monetary affairs said derivatives dealers should be prohibited from owning stakes in central counterparties as well as their risk-management systems. The panel also said competition among central counterparties should not be allowed. If policymakers adopt the committee's advice, dealers will be forced to divest stakes in LCH.Clearnet and Ice Trust. Bankers are opposed to the proposals.
