Delta Air Lines has told federal regulators it will install new equipment in its jets designed to prevent pilots from overshooting their destination due to inattention. The updated avionics in Delta's A319 and A320 aircraft will allow air traffic controllers to send aural warnings to flight crews, rather than restricting them to text messages. The upgrade stems from last year's incident in which a Northwest Airlines flight went 77 minutes on radio silence when the pilots became distracted by their laptop computers.
