A plan by a Florida district to distribute iPod Nanos to parents of students in special education who responded to a survey is being scrapped after state education officials said the plan would constitute an improper use of special-education funds. The district had purchased the iPods and loaded them with educational programs for parents to use with their children who have disabilities, but officials said the special-education funds can only be used for technology and materials that are used in the classroom.
