The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given GRAS, or "generally recognized as safe," approval to Fruit-Sweetness, a zero-calorie fruit-based sweetener from BioVittoria. The New Zealand company says the sweetener, made from monk fruit, can be combined with other sweeteners, including sugar, Reb A or fruit concentrates.
