Social-software standards are increasingly necessary, according to Gartner, which has outlined five predictions for social software. Among them: While microblogging will continue, business use of standalone microblogging sites will all but disappear; one in five business users will replace e-mail with social networking; and about 70% of IT-driven social-media efforts will fail through 2012, or until social-network developers learn to create business solutions rather than platforms.
