Mario Polegato once cut holes in his shoes so his feet could breathe in the desert heat during a visit to Nevada. That experience was the inspiration for Geox, a billion-dollar shoe company founded on the principle that perforated soles are better for foot comfort. Polegato started the company after big companies such as Nike turned down his idea. "They found it strange that I was promoting holes in shoes," he recalls.
