Some entrepreneurs with a social mission are weighing the advantages of a new legal structure designed for companies where profit is not the primary goal. The low-profit limited liability corporation, or L3C, is recognized by five states, and advocates are hoping to find a sponsor for a federal bill that would recognize the structure. The main advantage for entrepreneurs is that L3Cs are attractive to foundations looking to maximize their funding dollars.
