One runway and 10 taxiways at Los Angeles International Airport will get new runway status lights designed to prevent incursions. The lights, linked to airport radar, automatically signal pilots when it is safe to enter or cross a runway. "The installation of this final phase of status lights will mark another milestone in our efforts to make LAX the safest airport in the nation," says the executive director of the city's aviation agency. The FAA will foot the bill for the system, which should be operational by February 2012.
