Global chip supplier Mediatek said today that its fourth-quarter revenue soared 41% on demand for cell phones in emerging markets. The company also predicted a 28% increase in shipments this year. The Taiwanese company, the world's second-largest provider of cell phone chips, also said that it would help clients such as Motorola reduce the time it takes to design new chips by selling software-embedded multimedia chips, which carry higher margins.
