Verizon Wireless expects to convert its current 3G footprint to LTE technology by the end of 2013, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Tony Melone said in an interview. Melone said the telecom was moving surprisingly fast in preparing to introduce LTE in 25 to 30 markets by year-end, and he touted how Verizon Wireless is devoting the entire block of 700-MHz spectrum it bought at an FCC auction to LTE services. Melone asserts, "700-MHz spectrum means that there will be fewer sites required and we'll have better building penetration."
