New varieties of roses are easier to maintain, require less chemical spraying to thrive and bloom longer without high maintenance, writes Lynn Hunt. Peter Kukielski, curator of the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden at the New York Botanical Garden has listed the top 100 performers. The shrub rose Quietness earned top honors because it blooms in the sun or partial shade and does not attract Japanese beetles.
