Recent reports about canine influenza virus are prompting some owners to get their pets vaccinated as a preventative measure. The flu reportedly can be transmitted from dog to dog, and from people who come in contact with both uninfected and infected dogs. According to AVMA, the virus is able to stay alive on the hands for 12 hours, on clothing for 24 hours and on surfaces for as long as 48 hours.
