Credit unions might be able to provide more support to small businesses under congressional proposals and interest on the part of the Obama administration.
Pending legislation would lift the federal cap that is limiting credit unions' commercial lending to 12.25% of assets. "We work very closely with credit unions and we have put forward a number of initiatives to help small businesses, but we are always willing to explore new ideas," said Andrew Williams, a spokesman for the Treasury Department.
