Gov. Ed Rendell's proposal to impose a wellhead tax of more than 5% on gas drillers in the Marcellus Shale could affect development of the area, said Kathryn Klaber, CEO of the Marcellus Shale Coalition. Aside from the 5% levy, the governor wants to charge 4.7 cents per 1,000 cubic feet of gas extracted. "Marcellus Shale development ... remains very much in an early development phase," Klaber said.
