Some 2,000 furloughed Department of Transportation workers were expected to return to the job Wednesday after Sen. Jim Bunning, R-Ky., abandoned his lone crusade against the 30-day extension of the Highway Trust Fund. Bunning, who objected to the legislation on grounds it didn't include any means to finance it, relented to pressure from Senate colleagues on both sides of the aisle, who acted quickly to pass the measure.
