Backhoes tore down a commercial building in the suburban Chicago village of Bensenville on Wednesday, the first of some 500 structures scheduled for demolition to make way for a new runway at O'Hare International Airport. The demolition work began even though Chicago has not reached an agreement with airlines on higher fees needed to fund the $15 billion expansion. "We are continuing to work with our airline partners," said Chicago Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino.
