The American Benefits Council is pressing the White House to rescind provisions of the health law that it says could discourage companies from hiring workers. Companies such as AT&T and Caterpillar say the measure, which reduces tax deductions for companies with drug coverage for retired employees, is expected to cost them hundreds of millions of dollars. The White House has so far pushed back, saying the law was deliberately crafted to eliminate the unusually generous tax loophole.
