Airport security has been tightened in India after explosive material was found in the cargo hold of a passenger jet in the southern state of Kerala. The police commissioner said a routine check of the plane's cargo area revealed a newspaper-wrapped package containing "explosive material which is commonly used in firecrackers, but can also be used to make a crude bomb." India's aviation system has been on high alert since intelligence agencies determined in January that militants linked to al-Qaida were plotting to hijack a passenger flight.
