The real barrier to innovation isn't a lack of creativity -- it's a lack of confidence, writes Scott Anthony. Innovative ideas face a "first mile" barrier, in which executives must take a leap of faith in unproven technologies to get the ball rolling, he notes. "Give most companies a $50 million business and ask them to scale it, and many can do it without batting an eye," he writes. "But starting something, getting through that first mile is just punishingly difficult."
