Four members of the House Armed Services Committee are warning the Pentagon that predictions of a 100-jet shortfall for the Navy and Marine Corps are "too optimistic." The bipartisan group of lawmakers wrote Defense Secretary Robert Gates to question the Pentagon's assumptions and to urge greater spending on fighters. "The strike fighter capacity of our Navy and Marine Corps is a strategic asset that should not be allowed to wither," they wrote.
