Traffic over the hurricane-damaged twin bridges spanning Lake Pontchartrain and connecting New Orleans to Slidell, La., will soon begin moving onto new roadways. An $803 million bridge to replace the older bridges -- Louisiana's largest public works project ever -- is nearing completion. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina battered the older bridges, and construction on the new project has been under way since 2006.
