Oregon is the first state to have an assessment system that is almost completely online -- a move that experts say scratches the surface of the potential for online testing. School officials say the computer-based tests, which students take up to three times a year, give immediate test results and offer more accurate information on student performance so teachers can pinpoint struggling kids. The test system focuses on English, math, science and social studies, with different questions offered each time a test is taken.
