Golf isn't generally thought of as an environmentally friendly sport -- but the Phoenix Open could change that, thanks to a sponsorship deal with Waste Management. The company is arranging for 50% of the event's waste to be recycled, using solar-powered compactors and reverse vending-machines that reward people for depositing recyclables. "This is a big chance to showcase green initiatives and leverage and scale those ideas across the country," says Waste Management Vice President Duane Woods.
