A buy-back program run by the Port of Seattle has taken 100 dirty diesel trucks off the road in a matter of months. The move will reduce fine-particle air pollution in the surrounding area by 1.5 tons annually, organizers say. "One hundred of the oldest, most-polluting trucks servicing the Port of Seattle have now been scrapped and replaced" with those that emit 60% to 80% less pollution, said local clean-air chief Jim Nolan.
