Education officials from 15 states and the District of Columbia are preparing to make final presentations to the Department of Education next week in their bid for a share of $4 billion in federal Race to the Top grants. The competition is expected to be stiff, as five-person delegations will each give 30-minute presentations and participate in 60-minute question-and-answer sessions that detail their records and plans for education reform. Education Secretary Arne Duncan has said only a few of the 16 finalists will be selected to receive the first round of funding.
