A research project at Vanderbilt Brain Institute in Tennessee is seeking to help children with autism find a way to speak through sensory integration therapy. The project, funded through a two-year, $670,000 federal stimulus grant, teaches children to interact with toys and pictures, then asks them to name the items again and again to aid in comprehension. The children are also equipped with special headgear to record their brain language sensors.
