Kansas City, Mo., schools chief John Covington revised a list of proposed school closures, reducing the overall number from 31 to 26. The closures are part of an ambitious districtwide consolidation plan that would eliminate more than 700 positions -- including 285 teachers -- next year and reorganize grade structures in an effort to save the under-enrolled district $50 million in expenses. School board members are to vote on the final school-closing plan -- one of the largest ever in the U.S. -- on March 10.
