A program at a Toledo, Ohio, high school aims to help at-risk students earn their diplomas by providing mentoring and financial incentives. Created by a nonprofit group through federal funding, the Polar Academy program has students completing coursework online and provides job training and volunteer work for students during the school day. Participants -- many of whom have learning disabilities -- can earn up to $250 a month for perfect attendance. The program may be expanded to other Toledo high schools.
