U.S. researchers found that mice infected with salmonella developed fever, anemia and other symptoms consistent with Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis, a fatal human inflammatory disease. "This animal model for HLH will help to advance the research and understanding of the underlying mechanisms of this immune system disorder" and "provide a means to test new therapies for HLH," one of the researchers said.
